Rooted in New Zealand and headquartered in San Francisco, Allbirds is a global purpose-driven lifestyle brand redefining modern footwear and apparel through natural innovation and uncompromising sustainability. Founded in 2016 by former professional footballer Tim Brown and renewable energy engineer Joey Zwillinger, our journey began with one bold idea: to make better things in a better way.

Tim’s lifelong admiration for New Zealand merino wool sparked a mission to replace petroleum-based synthetic fabrics with planet-friendly natural materials. After years of research and material experimentation, the pair launched our iconic debut style—the Wool Runner, famously named “the world’s most comfortable shoe” by TIME MagazineAllbirds. What started as a single sneaker has grown into a full lineup of everyday shoes, apparel and accessories beloved worldwide for cloud-like comfort, minimalist versatile design, and low environmental impact.

We reject the wasteful standards of traditional fashion by centering renewable, low-carbon raw materials at every step. Our proprietary natural material portfolio includes:

  • ZQ Merino Wool: Temperature-regulating, moisture-wicking, traceable wool from ethical New Zealand farms
  • Tree Fiber: Lightweight, breathable textile crafted from sustainably harvested eucalyptus pulp
  • SweetFoam™: Carbon-negative shoe sole made from renewable sugarcane, replacing fossil fuel-based foam
  • Recycled polyester, castor bean oil and natural rubber for secondary components
